SUM()

I have a query, it has a limit of 25 however there are 100's of records

Im having it display 25 results per page hence the limit

However, On the page I want to display

1: How many rows exist in the database regardless of the limit

2: The sum of a certain field for the entire database where the query matches

I use 'SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS' for the first 1 and that works fine, however, how can I pull out the actually SUM of a field in the database with a LIMIT

I want to avoud running a totally seperate query to find that info

Cheers

Most efficient way for 1 is

SELECT COUNT(*) FROM tablename.

2 needs clarification

The sum of a certain field for the entire database

or

The sum of a certain field  where the query matches

The sum of a certain field for the entire database
