twistedtwig
Hi all I am trying to set up proxyPassReverse but seem to be having some what of an issue. First here is my apache2.conf: # # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool. # # This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the # configuration directives that give the server its instructions. # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.1/> for detailed information about # the directives. # # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure # consult the online docs. You have been warned. # # The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections: # 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a # whole (the 'global environment'). # 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server, # which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host. # These directives also provide default values for the settings # of all virtual hosts. # 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to # different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the # same Apache server process. # # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "/var/log/apache2/foo.log" # with ServerRoot set to "" will be interpreted by the # server as "//var/log/apache2/foo.log". # ### Section 1: Global Environment # # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache, # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it # can find its configuration files. # # # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's # configuration, error, and log files are kept. # # NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network) # mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation (available # at <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.1/mod/mpm_common.html#lockfile>); # you will save yourself a lot of trouble. # # Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path. # ServerRoot "/etc/apache2" # # The accept serialization lock file MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL DISK. # #<IfModule !mpm_winnt.c> #<IfModule !mpm_netware.c> LockFile /var/lock/apache2/accept.lock #</IfModule> #</IfModule> # # PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process # identification number when it starts. # PidFile /var/run/apache2.pid # # Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out. # Timeout 300 # # KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than # one request per connection). steviewdr
Open up a comand prompt or terminal. Go "ping www.google.co.uk". Go "telnet www.google.co.uk". These should work. If your OS cant access the sites then apache cant/wont. Test these first. -steve
twistedtwig
Your right. I can ping them from the server but If I vnc onto the box and try and view their pages from firefox they timeout eventually. Does this mean for some reason the server does not know how to route packets into the network or something... not quite sure why this would happen if it can ping them
steviewdr
Well - typically firewalls will let through IMCP packets (pings) and stop traffic on certain ports such as 25, 80 etc. Whats your network setup? What computer is your Domain Controller? Whats your Gateway IP? Do you use a Router? Is it configurable via a website? -steve
twistedtwig
I have iptables running as my firewall. I can only assume that the resquest is considered to be outside the local network, i.e. it goes through the external network card rather than the internal one. Need to read up on IPTables again very rusty on that. Thanks for the help in guiding me.
twistedtwig
I had a go at the IPtables. When I dropped all my rules and opened everything up I could see the webpage on the internal server straight away. I reapplied my rules and couldn't see it again. My next task is to find out why rule / set of rules is doing this. Thank you for your guidance with this
twistedtwig
it was the firewall.. When I allowed all traffic in and out of the internal interface on the server it was happy. did a few online nmaps and nothing new was open, as I expected. As I understand it allowing the internal interface to be trusted is not dangerous.
darsh999
You are right their is nothing wrong in your computer right. I can ping them from the server but If I vnc onto the box and try and view their pages from firefox but the can not open but they are visible in internet explorer try this...
