your probably not lossing them.. but to display them you need to convert new lines 2 breaks

ie

<?php
$article = "testing \r\ndata";
$article = addslashes(htmlspecialchars($article));
echo nl2br($article);
?>

 

if you do "echo $articlel;" instead of "echo nl2br($article);" and view source your probably see their are on different lines.. but not formatted to be on different lines.. thus you need to convert newline to break ;)
