Hartley
Hey everyone, I'm recoding our guild website, but before I get to the code itself, I'm still working on the layout and getting ready to CSS it. In this critique, I'm looking to improve design elements and color scheme: I realize the site is VERY yellow, but I don't know what color contrasts to use or where. There will be three different page layouts: the first is the front splash page people see right away with all the necessary immediate information, the other two are used depending on the page. These are only images right now: I want to fix the design before slicing it up. Note: The admin at the top won't be viewable by everyone, obviously, but still wanted to have it there for sake of vision. http://www.ascendo-tuum.com/images/preview/preview17.jpg http://www.ascendo-tuum.com/images/preview/preview18.jpg http://www.ascendo-tuum.com/images/preview/preview19.jpg
roopurt18
preview17 has the most cohesive look and feel to me. It also displays a decent amount of information to visitors without taking up a lot of space. I'd look at modifying the font slightly, it's a little hard to read. The map in the background is a little too prominent and detracts from the content. Perhaps if you darkened or lightened the background the content would stand out a bit more. Also, it would help break up the color a bit, as you already commented the site is "VERY yellow." I don't like the other two at all. Each of them is like you couldn't decide between sci-fi or fantasy so you just mashed both together. Its very contradicting. The colors don't really fit either. Hartley
Which font in particular? Is the pixel font not working (sci-fi element, to an extent), or is the other? If I change the smaller font, I wonder if maybe it'll pull it together better. I'll try recoloring the frames and see if it can be made to fit better. Thanks, will update soon, more comments welcome! roopurt18
The blockier font, almost looks like a Courier or Terminal font. The more fantasy-type font is fine IMO.
Hartley
Through working with the colors I'm trying to make it less fantasy so the other font can still work, kind of tough, but want to try to make it the best possible. Any more ideas that could make it more rounded?
