[SOLVED] Select From 2 tables

I would like to grab from 2 tables:

 

$cat = Function

 

I want everything from tempSnips where cat equals $cat

And

I want everything from snippets where cat equals $cat

 

The below is grabbing but it only gets from table snippets everything... but... cat doesn't equal anything... it is currently empty...? so why is it grabbing them?

 

SELECT SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS DISTINCT * FROM tempSnips,snippets WHERE tempSnips.cat = '$var' OR snippets.cat = '$var' ORDER BY snippets.name,tempSnips.name

You want a UNION, not a JOIN.
