You can buy an ssl certificate from your hosting company for like $50-$100 per year.  You should do that, but you also need to use smart programming skills.  Once you have ssl, though, everything is encrypted, so you do not have to do anything out of the ordinary.  As long as your files, directories, and code is secure, that should be good.  At first, I wasn't sure if SSL meant I had to do things completely differently, but really you don't.  Hope that helps.
