mysql_num_rows: supplied arguement is not a valid MyQSL result resource

Recommended Posts

I am trying to verify that a table, which has just 1 column has at least 1 entry.

My code is:

$link = mysql_connect($dbServer, $dbUser, $dbPass) or die
("Could not connect");
print "Connected successfully<br>";
  mysql_select_db("$dbName", $link) or die("Could not select database");
  print "Database selected successfully<br>";
  $query = mysql_query("select * from mobiles", $link);
  $rows = mysql_num_rows($query);

as can be seen, I am using the result of the  select query $query as the resourse for the mysql_num_rows() function, yet I am getting the above warning.

Can anyone explain why I am getting this warning?
