are you telling me you can read that zended php?

Be serious and post stuff that isn't zended otherwise no one will help you.

The issue has abosluetly nothign to do with a specfic page its a genera issue in how you write stuff you are doing conotation improperly or someother escaped string

i.e

<?php
$var = "Boo";
echo VAR;
#Above line produces undefined constant VAR error
echo $var." and ".VAR;
#Again error undefined constant VAR
echo $var." and VAR";
#No errror will output Boo and VAR
define("VAR", "This is Var");
echo VAR;
#No error as we now have a defined constant.
?>

Odds are you aren't quoting strings and it tries to read them as constants

okay sorry, im just trying to install a website i have purchased, and it has come up with loads of these errors, i havent wrote the code myself and have very little php knowledge,

Well you seriously think people can read that go to the supplier of said software and ask them about defining constants.

I have contacted the suppliers but they just dont reply,

this is my mess of a website, www.houseswitch.co.uk,

if i sent you the scripts, do you think you would be able to point me in the right direction of getting it all sorted?

Your help is much appreciated.

We have no legal or moral right to decrypt the zended work of a fellow programer and we won't dezend it.

Those are just NOTICEs...you can usually ignore them. What you should do is turn the error reporting down. Check this out for more info: http://us3.php.net/manual/en/ref.errorfunc.php#ini.error-reporting

NO!

If its producing an alert to something not being right don't ignore it fix it, that is just bad practice.

That is like saying the house three door downs has smoke coming out of it, but because its not my house and I don't see fire I shouldn't worry about  it.

I read the instructions and did everything it said in the order it said, the website came with a large number of scripts, these scripts are not zended, the only script that is zended is the one i have posted, the error posted is not the only error i have but i was trying to get this one sorted first seen as it is zended and seems more of a challenge, as i would not want to spend a long time fixing everything and not be able to fix this error.

In defense of my statement to turn off notices. I'm not saying you should get into the practice of ignoring Notices. But, PHP4 & PHP5 have notices turned OFF by default. So, since this is a third party app, there is a pretty good change they coded it to work instead of coding it to 'standard'. If it works with notices off, I say do it. Don't bend over backwards trying to pre-define all the variables and array indexes in someone else's code.

Thanks, i have turned off notices and everything seems to work, seen as I was unable to change the servers php.ini I have put ( error_reporting(E_ALL ^ E_NOTICE);) at the top of each script which took a fair amount of time but the site appears to be working now although I have not thoroughly tested it due to my server being down all day, damn streamline.net hosting >:(

Thanks a lot for the advice.
