Name Server Help

I hope this the right place to ask this question' however, I think you guys can probably help me anyway.  I have been trying to set up a web server on my computer, I am running Suse 10.3.  I installed everything O.K. (I think), I used "The Perfect Server - OpenSUSE 10.3" web page to set everything up (http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_server_opensuse10.3_p4).  I made it to page 4 and the install died.  I bought my domain name from Yahoo.  My question is:  How do I direct the domain name I bought from Yahoo to my computer.  When I installed mysql and tried to set it up. I get this error message:

mysqladmin: connect to server at 'server1.example.com' failed

error: 'Unknown MySQL server host 'server1.example.com' (1)'

Check that mysqld is running on server1.example.com and that the port is 3306.

You can check this by doing 'telnet server1.example.com 3306'

Do I need to change "server1.example.com" to server1.kdfuson.com (what does server1 mean, and does it have anything to do with the yahoo name servers which are yns1.yahoo.com and yns2.yahoo.com).  Do I need to change these for my specific needs and why are there two (do I need two and, how do I do that)?

In Yahoo, do I need to change my DNS settings to direct everything to mysql?

Do I need another name server other than the one Yahoo gave me, and how do I direct everything to my computer? ???

This is what I have done in Yahoo:  I created two A records.  One is scout.kdfuson.com so I can ftp and the other is www.kdfuson.com for the web page.  The ftp works fine, but not the web page.  I think the problem is the name server.  ANY HELP WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
