joy.chat Posted February 26, 2008 Share Posted February 26, 2008 Hi, i want to know if i have a website named www.abc.com which is hosted on an IP say 10.10.10.10 can i have www.abc.com/xyz pointing to other IP. the reason i am asking this is that i want to plan for a large portal on which the subdirectories will be having other microsites. trq Posted February 26, 2008 Share Posted February 26, 2008 Of course you can (take a look at the documentation for IP Based VirtualHosts), I would however recommend having each site in its own document root. The main sitemain site would be hosted in one server and the subdirectories on another, this will help in independent traffic monitoring, please correct me if this seems to be a wrong approach. SoS !! i will reiterate the whole requirement i would have One Main site running a CMS on it, with some community builder applications integrated. other two sub sites running would be forum and blogs. we have finalized in policy that the links to this will be subdirectories for ex. the forum site will be www.mainsite.com/forumsite/ and likewise for blogs. now we expecting a huge traffic on these sites, and would like to live monitoring the traffic on individual sites as well as at some point do some load balancing on the website.
