Though Python does seem to have alot more libs around (if your looking for any kind of comparison) because its quite a bit older/been in developement longer. Is if for writing computer programs? Um... yeah, its a computer programming language. Do you mean desktop applications in particular? Then yes, as with many languages (including php I might add) it has bindings to various gui libs. Online applications? Yes, It has libs that support writting all kinds of web applications. You might be best to browse through the stdlibs in the documentation. Theres also allot more libs opensource libs available but that might give you some idea of its power.
