OK, in Excel, format the columns correctly so they are of the correct type for the data that they contain. You can see that your description fields contain commas within the text so that is obviously going to cause an issue if you are using a comma as a field delimiter. Export the data from Excel or Access but use a pipe as a delimiter | for fields.

This is not csv format. Just look at it. There are a million commas. Where is the end of a record line?

Now thats upgrading.

I thought it was a really good idea, but hey, you can't please everyone.

You could but a nice pillow cover and use it as a foot stool. Seriously, if it that old I really wouldn't bother buying anything. Give it to charity.

Welcome on board General!

I told you, conspiracy theorists are nutters.

Your data may have a , in it so the import thinks it is the start of a new field

When you run a search on Google (or any search engine), each of the results has a big blue title and a small description underneath. This is taken from the HTML <title> tag and <meta name="description">. So to answer the question. They are very important in terms of search engine optimisation.

I dont like that video on the pages. It looks like its just floating and not meant to be there. Also it takes a little while to load at which point the user would become bored and click off. the gallery layout is naff. Needs spicing with some text i.e a snippet description under each photo. Also the firm is JD waterproofing right. What has a background picture of a living room with a pool table got to do with waterproofing or mold removal or foundation repairs. I though when I landed on the site it was a furniture company. A good website immidiately gives the user an understanding of what it is about when they land on it, i.e the products or services offered. You dont get this at all. Then you click on the gallery page and it is a bunch of images of buckets or a ceiling that needs plastering - it means nothing to me. If you take a look at this site http://www.wetfix.com.au I have to admit that the design isn't great but as soon as I land on it I know what this company is about. I can see straight away from the image in the header and then the big title underneath.

What is she doing under the desk. No wonder it hurts.

I hate conspiracy theorists. They are retarded. It was just the same after the Da Vinci Code came out. Suddenly all these nutters believe that the Holy Grail is buried in their back garden, or that the US government is shooting down passenger planes or detonating bombs in buildings, or that the world will end in 2012. Nobs!

We do have beer in the fridge on a friday sometimes. I'll let you know if any positions come up!

The solution is: Use an ftp client! Not a server side web script.

Actually, the company i'm at does a lot of porn / adult websites, so not far off combining the two.

5gb would be 50 files+. Are you going to wait for each upload? How do you know it can be split?

I got an appenticeship with a web design company back in 97 when I left school. Went on to do software engineering in college / uni whilst working. Moved into IT networks, server management probably around 2000 setting up Novell, NT, Win2K, Unix servers, users, etc and installing Cisco switches, fibre links, VPN's, firewalls, etc. Moved back into web development about 5-6 years ago and started learning php / mysql etc with the company I still work for. Really, sometimes I wish I had an outdoor job like on a construction site or as a gardener as I have been working with computers for so long my eyes sometimes feel like they are bleeding. I hate computers, wierd really.

A localhost scenario will not give you a good indication of how long the process would take. The client/server in your ase is on the same network so it is bound to be faster. Over a web connection is a different matter. To transfer that amount of data should be done through ftp and definately not through a web browser. At least ftp can recover if the transfer pauses. I would hate to get to 4.9gb out of 5 and then it stop and have to start again.

If you fancy creating a website on your home server that can turn the lights on, even dim them, start the dishwasher, or maybe switch off the central heating then it is easily done by installing flipit. http://www.lickey.com/flipit/ All you need is a couple of X10 devices and a Firecracker (website explains where you can get one) and bingo. Start writing php scripts that can power your home. Pretty cool.

I actually use IE8 quite often although I usually have Firefox open at the same time. I don't think it's so bad. If your a designer doing CSS stuff then I guess it's a pain in the arse as I know from our designer here, but i'm a developer so I couldn't give a monkeys!

I cannot believe that you are attempting to upload 5gb through a web browser!
