dmccabe
I run a site that currently runs off a very old version of phpBB. While I am getting better at PHP I am in no way at the level where I can write my own CMS and Forum software. So I want to renew the site and make it fresh and up to date. So I am after your suggestions for which is the best forum and CMS (paid for included) to develop a busy forum (10,000 members at moment and climbing daily) which is expandable and edittable. Preferably PHP based. So your thoughts/questions and advice is required? ober
SMF for the forum... not sure about the CMS. I roll my own. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/110987-cmsforum-software-suggestion/#findComment-569548 Share on other sites
dmccabe
Is SMF the best to use for something that will become a business, so would need to be 100% reliable and customisable? Ideally I am after something that is a forum and CMS all in one. ober
Well... we use SMF here (obviously) and it's rather reliable and completely customizable if you need it to be. All of my clients that run boards also run SMF. I'm not aware of a forum software and CMS in one. dmccabe
I have been looking at Invision Power Board and wondered what your thoughts were on that? ober
IPB... that's what we used to use here. It's a security nightmare (or at least it was). I'd steer clear. freakus_maximus
e107.org is a CMS with a Forum Plug-in (they have other plug-ins as well for various things). They have a decent Wiki for how to and various customization and there are many templates available. Worth a look, it's free. Plouplou
I currently use PHPBB3 with my halo 2 clan forums. I have no complaints at all. The theme was easy to install, The admin panel is straight forward and easy to navigate. I highly suggest PHPBB3. edit by redbullmarky: link deleted as seemed like more of a cheeky advert, to me. If anyone wants to try out phpBB, go here Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/110987-cmsforum-software-suggestion/#findComment-572190 Share on other sites
