[SOLVED] transparent images on the web

hey everyone, ive been trying to optimize my icons online which have a transparent background, whatever i try and do they still have a jagged edge after i save them; ive tried giving them a matte border in photoshop but they still look awful, this is the look im going for

Assuming you're doing everything correctly, like redbull said, save them as PNGs, and that should solve your problem.

 

I guess the only other problem would be you're just not deleting everything in the "background", it wouldn't be transparent in the first place, regardless of what you did, but this probably isn't the case.
