marklarah
Im thinking of learning perl. I know php pretty well, but what is the advantage of perl over php (i presume you can still use databases in perl)? dapaintballer331
I would advise against it. Most servers require perl scripts in cgi_bin, and its older so lots of new technology isn't incorporated yet. And not as many shortcut methods like strstr, strpos, etc Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/124068-php-vs-perl/#findComment-640528 Share on other sites
marklarah
My server, and my hosts server have php enabled. Its pretty much expected that servers come compiled with perl and ruby and such. But What i want to know, is what makes it better to use perl? corbin
It's a PHP website. What reaction do you expect? This thread will be locked soon, along with all of the other Perl vs PHP threads. I suggest you google around or just try the basics of Perl and see if you like it. You should also wonder if there's ever going to be any time when you need Perl or when you will have access to Perl and not PHP.
