I've read around that ATI cards aren't the best for Linux, but I've been trying to play some basic packaged 3D games, But I get a really crappy framerate. Anywhere from 0 - 15fps. I've installed the latest proprietary one (Released Sept 17 or something) and still to no avail.

Some system specs:

Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron

ATI Radeon X1600 Pro

ASUS SiS K7S41GX Motherboard

640MB RAM

When this was running XP, I could run things like Doom 3 at med-High, NFS:MW med-high, Spore on Med-Low.
