benphp
Someone said something about licensing that freaked me out. I'm using MySQL and PHP on our Intra-net and not using it to develop anything that we would sell. Maq
Nah, I don't think so, it's open source for a reason... benphp
Here's a post on the MySQL forum that says that so long as you're using it and not distributing it, you can use it for free: http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?4,14006,14006#msg-14006 It has been my understanding that the GPL license means that it is free to use in just about any capacity. But if you develop an application and want to sell it with a distributed copy of MySQL, you need to pay. At least, that's how I read the legalese. Maq
In one of the replies he answers your question: Here's the reply link > To answer the question in a very short manner: if > you are not distributing, you can always use MySQL > under the GPL license and therefore you will not > need to look at a commercial license. This > regardless of whether or not your purpose of use > is commercial or whether you selling a service on > your server that uses it. benphp
Thanks - I had a sleepless night thinking about it. Our IT guy didn't like the fact that I installed and implemented a well-received intranet without his approval. Maq
Sure, I think this is always the case unless you're actually distributing, if that makes sense ???
