Hey guys,

I was just wondering what you think about my design (if it hurts your eyes) and ideas on how to improve it. This is my first website so please be gentle! :D

Here are my thoughts...

It is nice and clean and lightweight looking. So good work there.

There are some issues however:

- The site does not handle font scaling well (Ctrl plus +). Things break down quite quickly.

- I would make adjust your login system so that it is all in a line flush right with the content along the top (seen as across from the site header).

- I'm not admittedly a fan of dual vertical banners (one on either side) of your content. I would consider either removing one, or simply relocated to being below the other, thus freeing up room to make your content wider. Come to think of it, since you already have a top banner ad, remove the matching one on the side.. the site feels too ad driven.

- Speaking of wider, I would make the menu the same width as the page content.. looks strange being shorter..

- Your site does not validate.

- Nor does your css.

3 ads? That's a lot for not having much content!

I recommend that you either decrease the number of total ads you have or take them all down. It is wiser to attract users first to your website, and as your your member base grows, you can start putting more ads on. I also know that you make LESS money through adsense if you have more ads. This is because your ad impressions are not as unique and that less people are likely to click on them if they see 5000000 ads...  ;)

Thank you both very much for your replies. I will look think about a solution for the advertisements. Also, I have started to fix those validation errors. I did not know you could check your META tags/CSS like that, so thank you for showing me. :)

However, removing one of the advertisements to the left or right, it looks as if the website tips to either side, even if I move it around a little. Would it help if I removed the top banner, or would it still be too much?

Would have to disagree with you there. Since I started ramming ads down people's throats; I've started getting more money. If you're a website that gets more unique views than re-visiting users, then send them all to hell with a load of banners. However, if you're website is user-based, cut down on the adverts or they wont come back.

Well, since I have a whole system set up for registering, the vast majority of my visitors are just going to be unique, rather than re-visiting people. So I might as well keep it for now.

This thread is more than a year old. Please don't revive it unless you have something important to add.
