Scrolling is horrible, things disappear under the heading image. Looks really bad. Personally, I like things to be centered. I like the first version though. It's good. Some of your borders don't align though. I didn't actually check if it validates, but you can check at http://validator.w3.org Perhaps don't use the white on the lighter gray.
