Lamez
I might have a possible client. She wants a website, how do I handle hosting? Do I add her to my account, make her start her own account, and make her pay for the fees? Thanks Guys! The Little Guy
You probably would tell her to get her own hosting, or if your up to it offer her some space on your server, and charge her. Lamez
ya, but I pay monthly. So I am paying to host her website, I think not! I will make her start her own account. corbin
This is really a question of whether or not you want to start doing reseller hosting/hosting your own stuff, or making the client choose hosting. Seems you're going with the last one ;p. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/134332-possible-client/#findComment-699351 Share on other sites

zq29
Just to offer some perspective, my company has a number of dedicated servers that we host all of our clients web projects on (that we have developed) and we charge them a monthly (automated) fee. They're all turning a profit for us. There are a number of benefits doing it this way: We're making money for not much work (They're managed by our provider) We have control of the environment Our clients have a single point of contact Admittedly, you wont start out by making a profit using this model, you're pretty much guaranteed you'll be paying for a large proportion of the monthly bill until you have a few more projects under your belt. It's all about foresight. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/134332-possible-client/#findComment-699486 Share on other sites
revraz
And some cons: You are responsible for their uptime, performance, email service etc. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/134332-possible-client/#findComment-699498 Share on other sites

revraz
I meant to point out if you want to be responsible for something you can't control (IE.. another host's service). It's an area you don't want to be cheap with - You get what you pay for!
