Gemori
Hello, this is my first attempt at hosting my website on a personal server rather than a paid/free host. I downloaded apache and followed directions to get the server running. I made a template and it works perfectly on LAN. But, it refuses to allow connections outside of LAN. Now, I'm aware that you must forward port 80 and I was told you must turn off anything that prevents things connecting your computer to others such as a firewall and all of this allowed me to connect in LAN without problems. But as soon as I asked a friend to visit my website he said it failed to load. Any suggestions? Site url: http://gemori.ath.cx/
trq
Your isp may actually block port 80. dyndns can forward port 80 requests to another port, you should try that.
Gemori
Well actually, I believe the problem has been solved. It seems that it wasn't a port problem. I had set my dynDNS ip to my internal ip address rather than my external ip address. When I changed it, I had my sister (whose at a different house) visit the site and she was able to view the page. If someone could verify this, I'd be grateful.

corbin
Didn't load for me. Now, I'm aware that you must forward port 80 and I was told you must turn off anything that prevents things connecting your computer to others such as a firewall and all of this allowed me to connect in LAN without problems. You might not want to disable your firewall entirely but just forward port 80. Then again, you're behind a router, so it shouldn't matter. Gemori
the server was down when you tried. I turned it off after he confirmed that it worked. I still need to work on security issues before I keep it on at all times.
