zhangy
Hello, Can someone please tell me if meta tag keywords need apostrophes around multiple word keywords? ex. <meta name="keywords" content="key, words, 'more than one word', is, 'this right'" /> or no need?: <meta name="keywords" content="key, words, more than one word, is, this right" /> Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/137365-solved-meta-tag-quotes/ Share on other sites

nrg_alpha
The <meta name="keywords"> tag is obsolete apparently, as this 'keywords' meta tag was abused to no end. Developers would insert extremely high ranking keywords that have no relevance to their site for the simple (and devious) purpose of driving more traffic. From what I understand, spiders now ignore this completely. As a result, we can safely omit this tag altogether.. the <meta name="description"> tag is still relevant however. Upon learning of all this not too long ago, I'll have to go through and remove the keyword tags from my own pages. EDIT - In accordance to this wikipedia article, apparently Yahoo still makes use of the keyword aspect, but I don't think the other search egine services support it. nrg_alpha
Well, I suppose one could leave those tags in for Yahoo. Afterall, it isn't much code (just a line). Depending on how big Yahoo's search usage ranks against Google and MS, it may (or may not) be much of an issue either way.
