Just getting my feet wet and I ran into this problem. I pass a username and password to a login.php page where I authenticate the individual and then start a session:

session_start();

session_register('$username_user');

$_SESSION['userID'] = $username_user;

But neither of these variables are available on subsequent pages. But when I test for

session_is_registered('$username_user')

It test true.

I tried placing these statements on the login page right after creating the variables

echo "You are logged in as ".$_SESSION['$userID']."<br/><br/>";

echo "You are logged in as ".$_SESSION['$username_user']."<br/><br/>";

and they are blank.

I am using MAMP on a MacBook Pro, if that matters.

Thanks.
