Mchl
A situation: - Alice (forgive me Alice, but using 'a person' seemed too lame) obtains a GNU GPLed code - Alice modifies source code, compiles a binary - Alice decides to give the copies of the binary to some of her friends, without intent to further distribute it - Since all her friends know, that the original work GNU GPLed, and that they can ask Alice for modified source code if they wished to, Alice does not include a copy of GNU GPL with her binaries. - Also, since the binary is not publicly available, Alice does not publish any changes to the source code, that she made. Question: Does this violate GNU GPL v3 in any way? Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/151141-gnu-gpl-v3-opinion-needed/ Share on other sites
Daniel0
Alice will have to release the modified source code on demand to comply with the license. Mchl
This she did One more question: in case GNU GPL would be somehow violated, would it mean, that the user has no right to run this binary at all? corbin
Note to self: Avoid GNU GPL is possible. Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/151141-gnu-gpl-v3-opinion-needed/#findComment-794198 Share on other sites
Daniel0
One more question: in case GNU GPL would be somehow violated, would it mean, that the user has no right to run this binary at all? The license is only really for distributors. The license is meant to promote open source and therefore it forces people to release the source code along the binaries. If you violate the license then it's strictly speaking a contractual breach in which case you might find yourself in court.
