Work Vs Uni

Hi All,

Would appreciate your opinions and input on this topic..  :D

Im gonna keep it 'direct to the point'

Is it better to work and gain qualifications within the ICT field (e.g work your way up starting with trainee ict tech - get cisco or php/java quals and so on..) or go through college and proceed to uni?

Now i know its a pretty vague question to ask - because obviously different variables and circumstances can affect which route is best, but i'd like your general opinion on the matter and maybe if you have any personal experiences..you might want to share?

Thanks in advance as always.

I would go through with college of course. You can also pick up a part-time job or get an internship to get exposure so you have the experience and education.

Wow, not many girls in the ICT field. You go girl! ;D

Hmm, but the thing is are you always guaranteed to do better by going the uni route?

I'm working as a trainee tech atm..and with the economy the way it is..its a bit hard pick up a part-time job  ???

And thanks for your support  ;D

If you want to be a network administrator (Cisco certified etc) I would get a bachelors degree in college. I know my brother in law is CCNA and CCNP certified and he was pissed that he could not get a decent job without having his bachelors so he went back to college and got that.

A bachelors degree will help immensely, along with the certifications. But I would also say, we worked on Cable/Networks/Security camera installing for about 7 years (this was the time he had his CCNA/CCNP) and then decided to get a bachelors degree so he could go into a company instead of running his own business.

So he had all the experience, but in the end it was the degree that weighted most.
