random1
Hey All, Are CSS Sprites worth using for background images for a CSS layout? Reference: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/sprites Are there any major browsers that do not support it? Is the upkeep of having a combined image worth it? Axeia
[quote=http://websitetips.com/articles/css/sprites/#test-validate]In addition to local testing, the markup and CSS in this tutorial have been thoroughly tested in the multitude of browsers via BrowserCam.com with several versions of Windows, Mac, Linux, and a multitude of browsers for each OS. The result is virtually identical in each. This approach even works with Internet Explorer 4. For Netscape 4 and other very old browsers, however, it's best to hide the CSS background images and styles from them since they won't do positioning properly for this. So unless you got Netscape 4 users it works fine. If it's worth it is a question you need to answer yourself, benefits were already mentioned in the article you linked to.
