Work for web desingers

I think whats nice to see now a days is theres more of a line between a developer and a designer. Anyone and their mom can download wordpress and have it up and running within minutes, and in doing so they deserve the title of web designer... I guess.

I'll be damned the day when they start calling themselves programmers. I've since taken HTML and CSS out of the "languages" part on my resume, I refuse to fall into 'that' category.

I disagree completely. Personally I have been doing web design for years now. Us designers should not be degraded into such category - And to your example. That mom and someone would just be installing wordpress not designing for it. If anything they would consider them more programmers than designers since they installed it, created the database and manage it.

Without HTML you could not be displaying the message you typed. I dare you to look at the web without CSS and last a week. All tools are important. Please do not degrade either of them - Unless you know what you are implying.

I don't know about you guys, but I always thought html/css was much more difficult than programming. HTML/CSS has to be configured for browsers that read things differently and that was more of a pain than programming. Well but I suppose you could classifiy HTML/CSS programming as well.

I personally would not classify them as programming, as neither can

interact or modify a database. But they should be respected the same if not more than any web programming language.

I agree with tylerdiaz. It isn't the same thing with HTML/CSS and programming. HTML/CSS is mostly more of an artsy thing and more people with art are better than that. People with rigor are generally not too good with HTML/CSS but way better at programming.

Neither should be degraded as they both make up the webpages of the intornetz!!!

I think you may have missed my point. Basically I said that the line between developers and designers is becoming less blurred. If you want to develop you develop if you want to design you design. I'm sure there are some people out there, and maybe you're one but its not common where someone can be good at design as well have the mind of a programmer.

I use CSS on a daily basis, I also use HTML. But I wouldn't classify them as programming languages. They're simply strings or tags of text your concatenate together in order to lay something out. The hard work (which I can not do for the life of me is done within Photoshop or Illustrator...)

and for the record, I have my own wordpress blog, I also use a theme that was free :) I wish sometimes that I could design but we are who we are I guess.

Sorry to offend, trust me in saying that without designers the internet would be an ugly place. But without programmers there wouldn't be a lot of function on the internet.

Respectful reply. :)

You do make a great point that now in day more and more people are becoming specialists in what they do. Me personally - I am a programmer and designer, but more a designer than programmer.

"But without programmers there wouldn't be a lot of function on the internet."

Hehe, no Facebook, eBay, Amazon,  Wikipedia, Twitter, or other social media app's? Pretty scary place to be...
