Absorbator
Hi everybody! I have an old i686 (Pentium 3 1GHz, 512mb RAM) and I want to turn it into server. Since the machine is really slow I want to use some minimized Operating System. I tried with Damn Small Linux, but it lacks too many things (some of which very important like gcc and make ) and I don't want to waste weeks of my life trying to configure the damn server. The PC is going to serve some sites with PPC advertisement - something like 30-40 impressions per seccond, but most of the time may be 2 to 4 times less. So I need something light (the GUI may be absent ) but still to have enough software out of the box. Thanks in advance Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/181034-solved-need-a-light-linux-distro/ Share on other sites
trq
A minimal Debian install will run fine on that box. Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/181034-solved-need-a-light-linux-distro/#findComment-955186 Share on other sites
Daniel0
If you don't need a GUI, virtually any Linux distro should be able to run with those specs.
