JonnoTheDev
Yep. It's a total rip off. Bring on the lawsuit.
Adam
When people request you design it like another site, they don't mean an exact replica. They mean they want a similar style, colour scheme, layout, or something along those lines. Looks like you've 'photoshopped' their logo off of theirs and stuck it on yours too. As neil says, bring on the lawsuit.. © 2010 Westlake Ace Hardware
greenbizkit33
not sure if that was a google map on there, but they are easy as pooo to add.
thewooleymammoth
yea that is a google map, i just created this in about 2 hours, so i planned to get a regular map. And i know they wanted a similar style because they are the same chain... They pulled up this site and said we want we really really really close to this. I did not photoshop off the logo, thats the generic "* ACE hardware" design. here is the ace website. They all have these color themes and wood design. http://www.acehardware.com/home/index.jsp I agree that its a little too similar though. i think what really put it off as too close was the footer. Im gonna change that up first and some other small things.
Adam
Well you didn't originally mention that this was part of the same "chain". However notice that yes, they have the same themes and wooden effects but notice the differences between the two sites. They are completely different yet follow the same style. That is more than likely what they're actually asking of you.. not a like for like copy. Not digging at you by the way, clients are infamously incapable of explaining what it is they really want. thewooleymammoth
sorry for my lack of explanation, ACE hardware is big around here, i forget that it isn't everywhere, didn't think to explain that. They did however express that they wanted almost every aspect of the site, a red top bar, a wooden banner etc... I am in the works on making it a little different so it doesn't have such a copied feel. I am aligning those square buttons horizontally, Changing the footer, The links on hover will be different and changing the link dividers. ill give you an updated image tomorrow afternoon to see if you guys think it will be changed enough. thanks for the input, I was actually really hoping to get some opinions on weather or not it was too close. Until Tomorrow
JonnoTheDev
thanks for the input, I was actually really hoping to get some opinions on weather or not it was too close. Shouldn't you be asking the client?
thewooleymammoth
i asked them as well, but i find that alot of times clients will like anything and then not like it at the end. I also find that the opinions i get from here are much more in depth. Diversity never hurts.
