To answer the question. PHP's mail function does not support authentication. This usually means you need to use a local smtp server to send mail. However, there do exist third party libraries around that will allow you to pass authentication data to an smtp server, thus enabling you to use an account on a remote machine. I've been looking at this for a while and am still stuck. I am on 1&1 and want to send email through php is it easy?
