menntarra_34
Hi everybody! I've just changed to a new server and in /var/log/messages I am seeing this every 1/2 hour: smartd[5833]: Device: /dev/sda, 1 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors I know that this might sound a faulty harddrive, but this number isn't increasing, it is the same since a week now. And if i run smartctl long test there isn't any errors reported! Above all here is the output of "smartctl -a /dev/sda" === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Device Model: WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 Serial Number: WD-WMAVU1945195 Firmware Version: 01.00A01 User Capacity: 1,500,301,910,016 bytes Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall] ATA Version is: 8 ATA Standard is: Exact ATA specification draft version not indicated Local Time is: Sat Oct 2 08:27:17 2010 CDT SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. Which shows "no errors" even this line sais no errors: 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x002e 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 So what is this error, should i worry/change HDD, or is it better to wait, if there will be any more increasing number of errors, or if possible how can i solve it? I changed the FAN in the computer in hope it was the temperature, but this error persists... FuThAr
Pay attention. Maybe you'll lost blocks of data. http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/badblockhowto.html Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/214989-is-my-harddrive-really-dying-or-not/#findComment-1243388 Share on other sites
phpfreak
Check dmesg frequently. It'll tell you if it can't read sectors. If it does, you should get ready and backup your data while you can. Change the drive immediately!
