I`m currently using a design which is mostly css and divs

The problem is that 50% of the time in firefox the menu shows below the page content like in this [url=http://www.carpfishinguk.net/error.jpg]screenshot[/url]

Yet when the page is refreshed the menu falls into the [url=http://www.carpfishinguk.net/should_be.jpg]correct place[/url].

that is typically caused by your content being a pixel or two wider than you account for in your fixed width layout. many times, you may have just added some content that stretched a tad, or sometimes you haven't accounted for the extra pixel of a border somewhere. play around with your widths and see if you can find the offending element.
