Lets start on the PHP forum and see where it goes.

I'm working on a client editable analog reports page ( http://www.analog.cx ). Nothing major -- just some select boxes with date ranges. I've got everything worked out except the forking part. So, how do I fork the process in such a way that javascript could check its status every so often?

A shove in the right direction, or a better plan is welcome.

Thanks!

You'll want to look at Ajax. This is the best (most straight to the point) tutorial Ive found on the subject. Written by the guy who invented php and all.
