find out if PayPal payment went through ok or not so can store 'paid' in mysql.

I have a payment button for PayPal which securely stores the amount, but when the payment is made how do i know if it was paid or not so i can get the page to store this in the mysql database?

Use IPN: PayPal will ping your server with information once the transaction goes through (or almost through).

I have looked at paypal for information on how i get this response but can not see anything.

 

Can someone please provide some links to PHP ocding that let me know if the payments were 'paid' or not
