What's wrong with my DOB form?

Firstly, I want to say that I have been a visitor of this forum for a few years now. I like the avid helpfulness of the community and its members here; and I hope I will be able to contribute in the same way in the future.

I have been having trouble with integrating a DOB form created by 'mjdamato', a member here, into a registration page. But the DOB wont seem to POST into the DB. It remains as 0000-00-00. Of course, all other info is posted without problem. It is a simple script, utilizing three different pages.

This php page presents the registration form in the body and a script in the header is used to create a dynamic DOB select box (updating appropriately the number of days depending on the month).

<head>
<?php
$monthOptions = '';
$dayOptions = '';
$yearOptions = '';

for($month=1; $month<=12; $month++)
{
    $monthName = date("M", mktime(0, 0, 0, $month));
    $monthOptions .= "<option value=\"{$month}\">{$monthName}</option>\n";
}
for($day=1; $day<=31; $day++)
{
    $dayOptions .= "<option value=\"{$day}\">{$day}</option>\n";
}
for($year=1900; $year<=2010; $year++)
{
    $yearOptions .= "<option value=\"{$year}\">{$year}</option>\n";
}

?>

<script type="text/javascript">

function updateDays()
{
    //Create variables needed
    var monthSel = document.getElementById('month');
    var daySel   = document.getElementById('day');
    var yearSel  = document.getElementById('year');
    var monthVal = monthSel.value;
    var yearVal  = yearSel.value;

    //Determine the number of days in the month/year
    var daysInMonth = 31;
    if (monthVal==2)
    {
        daysInMonth = (yearVal%4==0 && (yearVal%100!=0 || yearVal%400==0)) ? 29 : 28;
    }
    else if (monthVal==4 || monthVal==6 || monthVal==9 || monthVal==11)
    {
        daysInMonth = 30;
    }

    //Add/remove options from days select list as needed
    if(daySel.options.length > daysInMonth)
    {   //Remove excess days, if needed
        daySel.options.length = daysInMonth;
    }
    while (daySel.options.length != daysInMonth)
    {   //Add additional days, if needed
        daySel.options[daySel.length] = new Option(daySel.length+1, daySel.length+1, false);
    }

    return;
}

</script>
</head>

<form action="process.php" method="POST">
	<p class="textinput">Name: </p><p><input type="text" name="name" maxlength="30" value="<?php echo $form->value("name"); ?>"><?php echo $form->error("name"); ?></p>
	<p class="textinput">Username: </p><p><input type="text" name="user" maxlength="30" value="<?php echo $form->value("user"); ?>"><?php echo $form->error("user"); ?></p>
	<p class="textinput">Password: </p><p><input type="password" name="pass" maxlength="30" value="<?php echo $form->value("pass"); ?>"><?php echo $form->error("pass"); ?></p>
	<p class="textinput">Email: </p><p><input type="text" name="email" maxlength="50" value="<?php echo $form->value("email"); ?>"><?php echo $form->error("email"); ?></p>
	<p class="textinput">Description: </p><p><input type="text" name="desc" maxlength="150" value="<?php echo $form->value("desc"); ?>"><?php echo $form->error("desc"); ?></p>
	<p class="textinput">Date of Birth: </p>
<select name="day" id="day">
<?php echo $dayOptions; ?>
</select>

<select name="month" id="month" onchange="updateDays();">
<?php echo $monthOptions; ?>
</select>

<select name="year" id="year" onchange="updateDays();">
<?php echo $yearOptions; ?>
</select>

	<p class="textinput"><input type="hidden" name="subjoin" value="1"><input type="submit" value="Join!"></p>
	<p><a href="main.php">[back to Main]</a></p>
</form>

.

The second php page is to validate the DOB, change it into one variable, and process one part of the registration.

function procRegister(){
      global $session, $form;
      /* Convert username to all lowercase (by option) */
      if(ALL_LOWERCASE){
         $_POST['user'] = strtolower($_POST['user']);
      }
      /* Registration attempt */
        $day = $_POST['day'];
        $month = $_POST['month'];
        $year = $_POST['year'];

        // Validate
        #
        if ($year != '' && $month != '' && $day != '') {
        #
        // Generate date of birth in format of YYYY-mm-dd
        #
        $dob = $year.$month.$day;
              }

      $retval = $session->register($_POST['user'], $_POST['pass'], $_POST['email'], $_POST['name'], $_POST['desc'], $_POST['dob']);

      /* Registration Successful */
      if($retval == 0){
         $_SESSION['reguname'] = $_POST['user'];
         $_SESSION['regsuccess'] = true;
         header("Location: ".$session->referrer);
      }
      /* Error found with form */
      else if($retval == 1){
         $_SESSION['value_array'] = $_POST;
         $_SESSION['error_array'] = $form->getErrorArray();
         header("Location: ".$session->referrer);
      }
      /* Registration attempt failed */
      else if($retval == 2){
         $_SESSION['reguname'] = $_POST['user'];
         $_SESSION['regsuccess'] = false;
         header("Location: ".$session->referrer);
      }
   }

The final code is to insert into the DB.

   function addNewUser($username, $password, $email, $userid, $name, $desc, $dob){
      $time = time();
      /* If admin sign up, give admin user level */
      if(strcasecmp($username, ADMIN_NAME) == 0){
         $ulevel = ADMIN_LEVEL;
      }else{
         $ulevel = USER_LEVEL;
      }
      $q = "INSERT INTO ".TBL_USERS." VALUES ('$username', '$password', '$userid', $ulevel, '$email', $time, '0', '$name', '$desc', '$dob')";
      return mysql_query($q, $this->connection);
   }

I don't know what I did wrong as it isn't posting into the DB. This is probably a rookie mistake but I can't seem to figure it out. Thank you in advance.

P.S. I am using 'date' as a column and have tried combining year, month, and date differently. As you can see, it is currently:

        // Validate
        #
        if ($year != '' && $month != '' && $day != '') {
        #
        // Generate date of birth in format of YYYY-mm-dd
        #
        $dob = $year.$month.$day;
              }

But I have also tried without luck:

        // Validate
        #
        if ($year != '' && $month != '' && $day != '') {
        #
        // Generate date of birth in format of YYYY-mm-dd
        #
        $dob = $year.'-'.$month.'-'.$day;

              }

I have added echo $q, and ran the script. The page appears blank like it normally does. But there are no errors. But I have also checked the order on phpmyadmin and compared them to the script, there is no problem here. username, email, etc all post correctly.

The page appears blank like it normally does

You probably have a fatal parse error and your code is not even being executed.

The quickest way of getting a solution as to why your code for a page doesn't work, would be to post your code for that page. xxxxx out any sensitive information, but post all the code needed to produce the page.

Here are all the pages that are needed. Thank you for the help so far! Although I'm confused atm, I know I would be getting somewhere. The code should be pretty easy to understand. The interactions between the four pages should be quite simple. Thanks again!

Your most immediate problem is that $_POST['dob'] is not the variable that contains the date. $dob is the variable you should be putting into the $session->register() statement.

You should also be using the version of your code with the -'s in it, because the day and month values don't have leading zeros and the - characters are need in the format to eliminate the ambiguity in the values.

If you set error_reporting to E_ALL and display_errors to ON in your master php.ini so that all the errors that php finds will be reported and displayed, php will help you find problems like the $_POST['dob'] variable that does not exist. You will save a TON of time.

Yes, that solved it. $dob is supposed to be in the $session->register() statement. That finally got it. I also changed the validation code and the script works well. Thank you very much. Also E_ALL error_reporting is good advice.

Also, thank you to everyone else for taking a look at it.

Problem solved.
