Session help

Hello

I keep having this issue with sessions.

I have an login feature on my website that uses sessions.

When i do like this:

1. Login

2. close browser

3. open browser again

4. try to log in

It fails, actually nothing happens, so I manually need to go to logout.php to reset and then I can log in again.

Why is this happening and how do i solve it?

Session has a 20 minute time out. If the user does nothing in 20 min it will end.

There is no way the server knows that a browser has been closed, so if you wait 20min the session will end.

What! You don't want to wait....

session_start() creates a session or resumes the current one based on a session identifier passed via a GET or POST request, or passed via a cookie.

If your using cookies - they have a time out .. So I think A. use the GET or POST to keep session alive or tell the cookies (if your using those) to delete when the browser closes.

Does that help???

cookies? I cannot think of anything else.

My understanding is that when you close your browser your SESSION ID will be different next time you open your browser, thus you will need to login again, so:

1. Login

2. close browser

3. open browser again

4. log in required

if the above behavior is happening, then everything OK. But if your are failing to log in again (step 4 will not log u in) , your code is got ISSUES.

As I have said above, your sessions looks for cookies and determines if your log in. Function checkLogin() looks to see if the cookies are set.

Cookies are set here

      if($subremember){

        setcookie("cookname", $this->username, time()+COOKIE_EXPIRE, COOKIE_PATH);

        setcookie("cookid",  $this->userid,  time()+COOKIE_EXPIRE, COOKIE_PATH);

      }

and they have a time that they are active done here:

define("COOKIE_EXPIRE", 60*60*24*100);  //100 days by default

If you remove the expire date of a cookie it will disappear when the browser is closed.

define("COOKIE_EXPIRE", 0); should do it. See if that works.
