PHP to Javascript

I want to use javascript to check the "username" field in my registration form to see if the username already exists in the database, WITHOUT refreshing the page.

 

I was wondering if this is at all possible?

 

Here's the php code I have for it now...

You'd have to use Ajax to send the name to your PHP script, then handle the return value.
