I want to use javascript to check the "username" field in my registration form to see if the username already exists in the database, WITHOUT refreshing the page.

I was wondering if this is at all possible?

Here's the php code I have for it now...

<?php

//Check To See If Username Already Exists
$username_check = mysql_query("SELECT username FROM fans WHERE username = '$_POST['username']'");
$do_username_check = mysql_num_rows($username_check);
if ($do_username_check > 0) {
	echo "The username already exists!";
}

//Check To See If Email Already Exists
$email_check = mysql_query("SELECT email FROM fans WHERE email = '$_POST['email']'");
$do_email_check = mysql_num_rows($email_check);
if ($do_email_check > 0) {
	echo "The email is already in use!";
}

?>
