PHP Mail Function not working

Whenever try to use the PHP mail function on my local server it also fails but then when I upload my scripts to my webspace they work fine.  I think there must be something wrong with my php.ini file.  Below I have copied the mail function section of my php.ini file.

SMTP = localhost

smtp_port = 25

i know very little about server setups, maybe you need a mailserver, not just webserver?

 

besides if it works live, does it really matter?

have you check that your ISP does not block the smtp port?

Unless you are running an SMTP service on your local PC mailing will fail unless you add a valid SMTP server to your php.ini file and even then most ISPs block outbound port 25 to everyone but their own SMTP servers so, use your ISPs SMTP server in your php.ini
