It s hard in a way to explain something complex in layman s terms, I mean yes it is easy, you take files, put them on the internet, others can view them. Fine. But when they want a website, what should I expect? I mean, it seems like I can t ask them to even "draw a design on paper" for me to translate into a website which I prefer. Wireframes are nice, like drag and drop, I m looking to build one of those with automatic database creation/ pointing with injection protection. Anyway, it does depend on what their business is about, I think their mission statement or goal as a business is what determines the functionality and presentation of the website. If you want a website, what do you want? What are you looking for? Well I guess that's up to me to find out Well yeah, you're supposed to know all that stuff / etc. Then just ask them about a design, work with them, talk to them about SEO, etc. I have a feeling u already know how to do this. I would handle them the same, be nice and respectful regardless of their knowledge level. QuickOldCar Posted January 19, 2015 Share Posted January 19, 2015 I always had them paste me links of sites they liked to get an idea their expectations and preferences in addition to examples I have available they can select from. Get some information what their site is for, what it needs to do. Don't explain the inner workings of everything or will waste lots of time. Some have no idea and is why seeking a professional, now it's your job to sell them yourself and your ideas with trusting your decisions. Programmers usually do functionality over design and designers do style over function. A web developer should be able to do both equally well and they work together. moose-en-a-gant Posted January 19, 2015 Author Share Posted January 19, 2015 Thanks for your responses, I'm going to try a simple 3 step approach that incorporates different techniques to see if a person can put their website together with releative ease... it will be interesting to create script or something that automatically creates/points a database, the key is being intuitive. Drag and drop is must as well as positioning. Anyway I'll get something together. Drag and drop is must as well as positioning. Anyway I'll get something together. I'd recommend interactJS for drag and drop functionality. Only if you don't want to use bloated jquery/jquiery ui.
