IE6 Oddity with innerHTML

I'm still new to javascript so I may be missing something very simple, but here goes.

I have a particular element that when I pull the innerHTML property in FF it shows normally.  However, when I pull the innerHTML in IE6, all of the HTML tags are converted to uppercase and most of my double quotes are stripped off of attribute values.

Can someone offer up an explanation for this behavior, other than IE sucks?  :^]
