well here is the situation.... i'm learning PHP.."what a way to start" i'm in the process now of writing a registration form. but all tutorials i have found all use mysql as their databases. i was wondering if any other programs like access or excell can be used for these databases and if anyone can guide me the right way. or is their some place to get mysql for might i say free..... someone help!!!

As a beginner I suggest you set up a php/mysql webserver for testing. I like Xampp because it is a one file install package for Apache, PHP, MySql, PhpMyadmin, and a few other options as well. You can begin writing and testing code with a fully functional database server in minutes. (Free also)
