external connection help

in the command

 

$dbServer='localhost'

 

if i want to connect externally what is my dbserver name? is it my ip adress ?

 

i cant get it to work

 

$dbServer='xx.xx.xx.xx:3306' and it gave me could no connect is there something else i have to tell ?

You need to allow your account to connect from the server your site is on. (Nothing to do with php)

If teh port is 3306

Only

$dbServer='xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx';//Will work.

i was able to connect from home yesterday but today at work (first time i try) it says unable to connect is it because i am on a domain

here at work or the server here does not allaow me

 

pls help
