Zane
When you use a doctype it helps you to weed out the errors in your HTML and make it run more smoothly on other or all browsers if you have the patience. If you don't use one then your page may not look right or something really minuet that will bug the hell out of you. here's some reading material http://alistapart.com/stories/doctype/ Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/56963-html/#findComment-281386 Share on other sites
.Stealth
ive been doing html for a long time and i dont even know that. i just use templates that i have made. for example: transitional_template.htm <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//WC3//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-Transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <title> </title> </head> <body> </body> </html> Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/56963-html/#findComment-281400 Share on other sites
ToonMariner
I use teh xhmlt 1.1 dtd - that and teh other strict doctypes force ie6 into standard compliant mode which reduces/negates the need for any css hacks to get a better cross browser response...
