tibberous
Right now, the owner of twerq owes me a few hundred bucks, and is completely dodging me. He's owed it to me for a couple weeks now and I don't know whether he is going to pay me or not. He lives too far away for me to go to his house, but I was able to get his phone number from the whois on his domain. I live in the us and he lives in Canada, so I can't just go see him. This is the first person I've ever had not pay me, not real sure what to do. Any ideas?
pocobueno1388
Do you have a contract with this person? If you don't, I'm not sure theres much you can do...
tibberous
Just chat logs where he promises to pay. If nothing else I'll post his phone number / bad mouth his site, but thats not really helpful in getting my money. I called him, he said he'd call me back, guess we'll see =/ I can't really afford to work and not get paid for it.
pocobueno1388
I don't know how much chat logs would hold up. Honestly bad mouthing him isn't going to do any good, I wouldn't put all the blame on him. If you are programming for someone, you need to have a contract, and if you don't have a contract, have them pay first.
Jessica
Get payment BEFORE doing work. Also, this isn't the appropriate forum, sorry. In the future get a contract and 50% up front and consider this a learning experience.
tibberous
I got some up front, kept the files on my server - just never expected him to no longer want the files. I thought I was safe since he owned a pretty big web site... of all the people I expected to ripped me off.
Jessica
If it's around 500 or so, take it to small claims. I know he's in CA but I bet they can do something.
tibberous
$350, still, spent two days working for him and the project came out really good =/
Jessica
If you're counting on $350 to pay the bills, get some more gigs quick! :-P Not much you can do. Artists get screwed this way all the time, more often than programmers. Consider it a learning experience. Make sure to include in your contracts that even if they don't use the code, they owe you for hours worked that they asked for.
tibberous
That $350 isn't even the best paying thing I had this week, but it sucks that I have two projects late and one due right now, and that guy screwed me out of two days. Here is am doing more work, just to end up where I would have been if I had never talked to the guy. Jesirose, you are the first girl PHP programmer I have ever seen, congratulations. Jessica
Congratulations? For being born a certain gender? k... Women are statistically better at Math and Logic (including programming) than Men. If anything, congratulations to all the men who overcome their genetically poorer disposition. (Sarcasm, chillax.) PS: Thanks anyway
