encrypted php files (should they be encrypted?)

Recommended Posts

hey all!

ok so, i paid for a links directory (license & installation) but it didn't look as good as it did in the images.. so i was about to edit the files and style the directory to my liking but then found that all the files are encrypted.. do you think i should have the right to the decrypted code sinse i paid for it? I mean, i guess paying for the license/buying the scripts i should be allowed full access to the source so i can customize it, right?

I don't know if i should ask for the decrypted code or if they actually have the right to do this.. just doesnt seem fair!

thx

Of course they have the right to do this. You don't get the source for the windows operating system when you buy it either but its prefectly legal.

You probably should have read the license prior to purchase, it would seem the software is not open source.

You don't buy scripts of software, you buy a license to use it. There is a vast difference between those two things. Same thing goes for movies, you don't buy it in the way that you now own the rights of it, you simply purchase permission to view it. Music is the same as well.

This is of course if the license doesn't state otherwise.

yea i guess so, it just didn't seem fair.. and they bragged about how amazing it is and how much you can customize it so i "guessed" they also ment with the source but grrr they didn't!

I wont encrypt any of my scripts, well, atleast not for something like a links directory, whats the big secret about a links directory? ok I know, so people cant take code and claim it as their own but everyone does this sometimes and i bet half of his links directory uses scripts he found online. He has the right to keep it hidden but even so it just seems very unfair lol well i learnt not to buy scripts i should just make them!
