strive4impact
I would love it if you would take a look at our video promoting our eBay auction, and our web site, and tell us what you think? From a PHP Perspective, I've thought about adding an Africa Travel discussion forum using PHPBB 2.0, but have heard people talk about secuirty issues with PHPBB, and people recommend vBulletin would be better. Anyone have any thoughts there? On the site/video... It's my first real attempt at producing a short video. As well, I would love some feedback on our site. The video is available at [a href=\"http://www.kilimanjaro2006.com/video2.html\" target=\"_blank\"]http://www.kilimanjaro2006.com/video2.html[/a] Three questions for anyone who can take the time to answer... What do you think about the video? Funny? Fun? Interesting? Does anyone know of more or unique ways to bring more traffic to the auction? How about the layout? I know it needs aesthetic improvement, but is the navigation straightforward? Thanks! Jonathan
steviewdr
The video is very long 5-10minutes. I doubt business people would have the time to sit down and watch it.All I could see throughout the video was "logo logo logo".As for the website - your nice background image wont be seen at low resolutions - perhaps the background shouldnt be fixed and allowed to scroll with the page.Just a reminder incase you dont know - this is a "Website Critique" and not a video critique and/or advertising place etc.Good Luck with it.-steve
ober
As far as the video, I'd be concerned about copyright issues before I worry about the quality of the production. I'm pretty sure it's safe to assume that you didn't do the animation. I'm also pretty sure that using images captured from Google Earth probably isn't a good idea. And that's about as far as I got before I stopped watching. It's very long and doesn't really seem like a great idea, IMO.The site itself is another thing entirely. Your content is scattered and doesn't appear to have a specific flow. Your background image is grainy and has a very "stretched" feeling to it. The main problem I see is that everything is very basic. You don't pad your areas properly, your text is very simple and sometimes bolded when it shouldn't be and you don't even seem to use the same font throughout the site. The nav is also very boring and there is no hover effect. As far as forums, check out [a href=\"http://www.simplemachines.org\" target=\"_blank\"]http://www.simplemachines.org[/a] . strive4impact
Awesome, awesome feedback. Thank-you for taking the time to provide it.I have learned a lot throughout this process...When you say "all I could see was logo, logo, logo" What do you mean?Would you take a look at a page I'm working on? I would like to use it as a template for the rest of the site once I get it to where it looks good. I'm really trying to change some things based on people's feedback. The video is now much shorter. As well, I'm working to make the navigation more friendly/interesting. (Creating rollover effects mostly.)[a href=\"http://www.kilimanjaro2006.com/sponsor-of-our-kilimanjaro-climb.html\" target=\"_blank\"]http://www.kilimanjaro2006.com/sponsor-of-...jaro-climb.html[/a]If you were designing (redesigning) this site, what would you use for a background? Thanks again for the feedback. Keep it coming. It's the only way we will get this to be the best it can be.
steviewdr
Humm...The text is coming way too fast in the video. Basically you are shoving a website (ton) of text into a video with sound trying to entice people. With all the text coming fast - the quality of the text is poor.If you are planning on having tons of text - I would move to flash and overlay the svg text over the video which would be way better. As for the logo logo stuff - it was a little overkill in your first video. The improved video is a bit better. You need to cut the junk out of the video still.Instead of having a ton of text and that soundtrack playing over and over - you should do some professional voice over. It would be way better. It looks a little cheesy yet.As for the presentation of your website containing the video - it lets you down. Your website with the "All Bold" text makes it look old and un-professional. I would get a professional website template - and do your proper advertising there and have your video/flash there.Rgds,Steve
strive4impact
Hi PHP Freaks! Thanks to everyone for all your help! We've had a new design and new video for some time, but just haven't been back here in a while. So, check out the changes, if you would. We leave in two days, so not a lot of time to make changes, but I would still love your feedback![a href=\"http://www.kilimanjaro2006.com/sponsor-of-our-kilimanjaro-climb.html\" target=\"_blank\"]http://www.kilimanjaro2006.com/sponsor-of-...jaro-climb.html[/a]
