ohdang888
ok so i bought a domain name. I use XAMPP and have PHP installed.... And localhost works perfectly but my domain name is not working. I know i bought it and regristered right, because when i put it in my browser, in the bottom left corner it says "connecting to" and then my ip-address but it says: The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. Whats wrong? I did this several times, too.
ohdang888
also, it takes a while for the page to load.

Wolphie
Do you have port 80 forwarded? Or which ever port your server is running on?
trq
Are you trying to access your domain from within your own network? This usually won't work. If so, you'll need to add an entry to your hosts file. In Linux its /etc/hosts, I'm not sure where it is on windows but just search for a file called hosts then add... 127.0.0.1 yourdomain.com
ohdang888
yes. apache is on Port 80. This is a world-wide domain name, if thats what your asking... i want you to be able to type in my domain name and see it. Not just from my computer, but from everywhere. the domain name is: www.kyforobama.com
ratcateme
have you setup a port 80 forwarded in your router Scott.
trq
Is your router forwarding port 80 to your server?
ohdang888
i don't think so. Unless the installation did it automatically, then no. How do i do that? -Thanks!!!!
trq
You would normally log into your routers interface and enable it somewhere, they are all a little bit different. Simply forward port 80 to the internal IP of your server.
ohdang888
um... anyone know any really good tutorials for that?
ohdang888
like.... what software would i need to download to use to do that?
trq
like.... what software would i need to download to use to do that? None. Most routers come with a built in web interface. Usually accessible via http://192.168.0.1 or http://10.0.0.1 What kind of router do you have?
ohdang888
sorry if i sounds really stupid... i'm really new at this..... This is on my computer... windows vista... From google, it said "A router is a computer whose software and hardware are usually tailored to the tasks of routing and forwarding" I have a linksys home wireless router... is that could be used... i remember what interface you are talking about... but i can't remember the ip address of it, and those two you gave aren't working. trq
but where on the intereface would i go to forward a port? I have no idea. It's normally in a tab called port forwarding or something simular.
trq
You'll want to look in the advanced routing tab.
