Yeah its pretty damn intense. My home computer's got 1 GB XMMS Pro Memory and P4 2.8 GHZ with an ATI Radeon x1600 pro video card. Even after I play, my computer is useless for about 2 minutes until the resources unload! Anyways, I'll be on the server. If by chance I'm not there when you join, I'll be watching rcon on BF2CC and I'll join up shortly. Woot. -

Is this a ranked server or non-ranked? My handle is "ober0330".... surprise, surprise. I'm so boring. I'll have to look you up on bf2tracker or bf2s.com I have about 24000 global points... what do the rest of you have? Hi, Yes, its a ranked server. I usually play at night time too, around 8 - 10 PM for about an hour or so. If we can start packing some people on to this server, then it will become popular and we can get points. It requires 6 players minimum to start a round. I might catch you tonight! Definate get teamspeak though: [a href=\"http://goteamspeak.com\" target=\"_blank\"]http://goteamspeak.com[/a] -

At The Web Freaks, we work in an office all day. We also like to play games. So, we've setup a Battlefield 2 Server and a Teamspeak server at the following address: bf2.serverpowered.com If you've got the latest Battlefiled 1.22 and TeamSpeak, feel free to join us at that address. The server is 24 x 7 and we usually jump on in the afternoons and play for a bit. Hope to see you there! Oh, and My BF2 Nick is W3bFreakEric

Why Cant I POST In PHP HELP?
phpfreak replied to AbydosGater's topic in PHPFreaks.com Website Feedback
What you are seeing is ModSecurity in action. In the past, we've had our forums exploited because we customize our IPB installs and IPB releases new versions and the customizations are quite complex at times, so it comes down to when we have time to upgrade. It kind of sucks, but there's not much we can do. So, when you get an Error 403 Forbidden or an Error 406 Not Acceptable, that means something in your POST Payload has caused a ModSecurity rule to prevent you from posting. It thinks you're trying to do an SQL Injection or a XSS injection. The Pastebin is a good idea. We may put something like that up here sooner or later, but for now that's a good alternative. Sorry for the troubles, but we can thank the idiots out there who like to exploit forum software and disrupt communities. Regards, -
I have confirmed that the Adblock firefox extension on the mozdev website will block the ads that everyone is complaining about. If you are regular, and are frustrated, grab an adblocker. Go to: [a href=\"http://adblock.mozdev.org/dev.html\" target=\"_blank\"]http://adblock.mozdev.org/dev.html[/a] Click on: Adblock 0.5 d3 nightly 42 and install the extension. Then, restart Firefox. In Firefox, go to Tools > AdBlock > List All Blockable Elements In the text field enter: http://*.kontera.com/* Then the ads will be blocked and all will be normal. However, we really wish that you wouldn't do this and we wish that you would check out the advertisers, but in efforts to make everyone happy, this is a possible solution for Firefox users. If anyone else has simple instructions for other browsers, please feel free to post it. Regards,

Please continue to post your complaints about the links here. We've give kontera the url to these threads and I can assure you they are working on it. If we had some other way to support this community financially, we would, but at this time the Ads are whats keeping the sites alive. We've tried many other things, WebHost Freaks and Server Powered. Ironically almost every person that uses these sites needs hosting, but that doesn't seem to drive home the point that we offer hosting with all the goodies, kick ass Dedicated Servers and such, but we're not seeing the type of response we would have liked on those businesses. So ads are here. Just let us know what the problems are, give some type of proof and we'll send it to Kontera. Regards,

Yes, you need revenue to run these sites, but having the screen freeze everytime it repaints will probably drive everyone away. Ken We have relayed all of the concerns to Kontera and we're waiting on their response. Thanks,

PHP Freaks : New Advertisements

[!--quoteo(post=356167:date=Mar 18 2006, 09:56 AM:name=wildteen88)--][div class=\'quotetop\']QUOTE(wildteen88 @ Mar 18 2006, 09:56 AM) 356167[/snapback][/div][div class=\'quotemain\'][!--quotec--] I'm getting the same problem, however i dont get a notice like you say, but FF does freeze for at least a secound or two this is because of the add service that has been installed. The pages display quickly but then the adservice adds in all the various ad links so this is why the page freezes. Yes, we see it too and we've contacted the ad agency regarding this. It's a matter of this: either we fund the site, or it goes away I think we can live with a second long delay for a short period of time until they get the issues solved. Regards, -
We have signed a deal with Kontera to provide advertising on our websites. This is "inter-text" style meaning that certain words will be replaced with advertisements. Before you click the link look at what it is. Now, I know some of you want to help us out and think that clicking like a maniac will make us alot of money. It wont! In fact, "over clicking" or "fake clicking" will do us harm and potentially cause us to lose our deal with this ad firm. So, only click on a link if it actually interests you. Clicking 5 links in a minute will flag your IP address and we won't get anything for your click. So, please be responsible. I know there's quite a few interesting ads, I've found a couple myself. Like I said, if its something you are truley interested in, then click it, otherwise, don't try to do us any fabulous favors! Thanks for your support! Hopefully this will solve all of the issues with running sites like this. Regards,

Good luck, and I'll click on ads every time I visit! It shouldn't be any slower than usual, in fact I think the site is faster now. It's running very well from what I can tell.

We've decided to downgrade the phpfreaks.com server for a couple of reasons. 1.) We're splitting it off of being on the same server as Linuxforum.com, ApacheFreaks.com, and MySQLFreaks.com 2.) Yahoo Slurp is litterlally killing our server. That is the most inefficient web spider I have ever seen. We have to drop 72.0.0.0/8 temporarily in order to reduce the load on the server because it was killing even our Dual Xeon. 3.) We simply cannot justify at this time to keep running our sites on Dual Xeon processors with the very little support we receive from our communities. There's ads on the sites, we need you to click them and support our advertisers. This has been said numerous times, but doesn't seem to be working very well. We've been building products over at Server Powered that you as developers could appreciate. We've got the VPS, the Dedicated, the Shared with WebHostfreaks.com and etc. We've got the 24 x 7 support and everything you would need to host your sites. Instead, we get minimal interest from phpfreaks.com visitors / members. ServerPowered.com and WebHostFreaks.com are the funding sources for phpfreaks.com and our other sites. All that we ask is if you're a user of this site, why not consider moving your hosting to us and contribute back to this community so we can continue to help you? So, right now, phpfreaks.com is running on a [a href=\"http://www.serverpowered.com/vps.php\" target=\"_blank\"]Virtual Private Server[/a] along with Ajaxfreaks.com. We've already had to rollback the database once due to the Yahoo Slurp hammering the server and exhausting the memory. Where we will go from here, we're not sure. If we don't get support from our communities (yes, people like you reading this post) then we'll have to find alternatives than running these sites. top - 10:43:33 up 10:58, 0 users, load average: 1.51, 1.79, 2.43 Tasks: 72 total, 4 running, 68 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie Cpu(s): 48.7% us, 7.7% sy, 0.0% ni, 43.6% id, 0.0% wa, 0.0% hi, 0.0% si Mem: 1024484k total, 832160k used, 192324k free, 19180k buffers Swap: 1012084k total, 10964k used, 1001120k free, 185404k cached Regards,

It's not even something you can develop that much. It's just a method of sending and receiving information, how much more complicated can you make it? You can't. I and many others will disagree with that. It's not that it's a new technology or really even a new language, it's the ability to streamline applications, enhance server processing, and tie together many of our favorite languages to enhance not just our website, but our web applications. I've seen a few very popular applications already implementing it, and we plan to do the same with Hybodus. It's going to be interesting. Now, I don't think it's going to be as popular as XHTML, XML, or nothing like PHP, but it is catching on and it will be popular.

Yeah, Ryan - 72dpi is an old friend of The Web Freaks. He's done some design jobs for us before and he's a cool guy.
-
Cool, well with this much excitement and willing to help, we may just go for it! I'll see about starting next week for sure.
-
I honestly don't know how long, or if I 100% want to do it. It sounds interesting, but am I going to have the time? Who knows... I'll work on it when I get a chance and we'll see.
-
The buzzword is out. AJAX. I've seen it, you've probably seen it, but it's going to be in our faces before we know it! A method to combine practically all of our favorite programming languages together to make some killer web applications. We registered ajaxfreaks.com about two weeks ago and we're planning to build a site just like phpfreaks.com but for AJAX. Who's interested in helping build some of the intial tutorials / content? If you are post here and let's plan something out. We can more than likely just copy phpfreaks, change some of the look and code and have AJAXFreaks.com! We've got some ideas to tie the communities together, so let us know what you think. I'm interested to hear what you have to say. I honestly think AJAX is going to be the next BOOM on the internet.

Apparently you do not subscribe to our e-mail notifications. We sent out an e-mail to everyone about the new forums in the article I put on the site yesterday: http://www.phpfreaks.com/articles/250/0.php -
Here's a new forum that was requested by some of our members. This is where you can discuss third party scripts such as phpBB, IPB, guestbooks, forums, and anything else.

I have fixed the PHP tags issues with exclamation points. If anyone has other characters that are goofed up, please post an example here in this thread using the syntax highlighter. One problem though, the PHP tags are parsed before they go into the database. therefore, if there's any existing posts that use that tag, it will not be fixed until the person edits, corrects and saves the post. I'm working on a fix for this as we speak, so be patient. Ironically, nothing changed on the website! Strange!

You have to put them in the PHP tags. Instead of code, use PHP for the tag. There's a pushbutton on the BB Code block for them.
