  1. Sorry but we do not delete content upon request (posts, threads, links, accounts, etc...). You made the decision to post what you posted. It wasn't some accident that you reported right after, or "sensitive" information. If we were to honor requests like this, it would open the floodgates.
  2. What? No more than current bandwidth costs. I imagine different companies will offer their own services and lists of programs and features. You wouldn't really do anything as far as installing new stuff. You just login and go about your business on their server(s). Goal will ultimately be for the user to not have to install or maintain anything whatsoever.
  3. You have to donate to become a PHP Freaks Donator and get that group/title. As far as the other groups go, like I said:
  4. The groups and short descriptions are as follows: Administrator - Administrate the board, main site, server, etc...end all be all "Head of council" for policies and decisions made around here. Global Moderator - Moderate the board, main site. "Main council" of policy makers around here. PHPFreaks Recommended - Same as Guru, but has been around for a long time and has shown that they are regulars who aren't going anywhere and actively takes part in growing and shaping the community. Gets to take part in certain decisions about the community. Guru (PHP Help, Database, Design, OOP; no particular order) - Shown to be knowledgeable and helpful in certain areas, and has been active for a while. Author (no color) - Been here long enough to show (s)he isn't some random face, and wishes to submit tutorials etc.. to the main site. See sticky for details. PHP Freaks Donator - Title earned as our way of saying thanks if you donate to the community for help you have received here, or because you want to help keep it going, or whatever. You can become a Donator by going to Profile > Paid Subscriptions.
  5. We abandoned post count member group promotions several months ago. Members are promoted to groups manually by nominations of other like or higher member groups.
  6. So were evolving backward to how it used to be? Interesting Yes, it will indeed be like that. The graphics will just be much prettier.
  7. Well I don't think it's so much of a preference for online tools as a preference for portability. People like having access to the same stuff, setups, etc... no matter where they are. I have a feeling average Joe user doesn't really care if that involves everything being "online" on a 3rd party server, or if that involves being able to "dial in" to their computer at home from wherever. Average Joe user doesn't care what goes on "behind the scenes;" they just want to be UI savvy. I mean, that's why laptops are so popular. And that's why smaller gadgets like blackberries are even more popular. And that's why cellphones have been steadily shifting to more than just being a cellphone. People want all the UI and functionality of a computer but be able to not be planted at some desk. So far, the best way to do that is to keep all the meat and bones on a server and pass out dummy terminals.
  8. Other errors I found that you will run into after fixing that: - your if statement has = instead of == (= is assignment, == is comparison) - forgot to escape the opening quote around index.php in your echo
  9. Forgot the closing " on your query string.
  10. sort array_multisort
  11. I do not disagree that Windows could indeed have more holes. I'm just saying that When you are dealing with something on a much larger scale, problems and exploits are scaled up, as well. If you have a network of 10 computers, 9 Windows and 1 linux, and the linux box has one security hole and the Windows boxes has one security hole, A lot more damage can be done by targeting the Windows' hole. Even if the linux box has 5 holes and Windows only one, you would still do more damage by exploiting the 9 computers with 1 hole. Of course, it depends on what the exploits are and what role the computers are playing in the network, but the potential is there, and therefore logically that's what's targeted.
  12. Oh okay, I thought you meant the general board stats, not your own profile stats. Right then. Nope, it's not wacked out. As thorpe's link says, it's because there are less people that visit those other boards than than the php help board. 100 posts in the PHP help forum is a drop in a bucket, an ocean, even. But 100 posts in Misc or moreso OOP help is a lot more significant to those forums, because those forums have a lot less posts overall.
  13. Okay let's be fair though. Most computers are running a Windows OS. By a large margin. Which also means that most software is written for Windows. A lot of companies only write software for Windows, because Windows is the main OS. As mentioned, it's the de facto standard that comes with anything you can buy prefab "Off the shelf." And for good measure, let's throw in the fact that it seems to be a common running joke that Microsoft is evil and Bill Gates is the anti-christ. If you have 100 machines and 90 of them are Windows based and 10 of them are not and you still further break those 10 down to other OS's, of course Windows will have the higher incidents of problems - because they have more computers. No matter what the OS is, it was made by humans, just the same. We just don't hear about the " Little guys' " problems as much as Windows, because they are littler. And that's not even considering how many people pick on Windows (through critique or cracking), solely because they look at Microsoft and think they see 666. Tell you what, let's do an exercise. Get a big bag of skittles. Let's assign some things to the different colors: red = viruses yellow = haters Pull out 10 pieces of skittles from your bag and put it into one pile. Now pull out 90 pieces and put it into another pile. Count up how many reds and yellows there are in each pile. While it is possible that pile 1 could have all reds, all yellows, or all reds and yellows, while pile 2 has no reds or yellows, it is very unlikely. What is very likely, in fact, the most likely by a huge margin, is that pile 2 will have a lot more reds and yellows than pile 1. Why? Because there's simply more skittles in pile 2. And that's just looking at it from a purely random perspective. That's not even throwing into the mix how many people unfairly bash and hate on Microsoft, simply because it's the cool thing to do. It stands to reason that out of all those crackers and script kiddies out there, a good chunk of them will also be inclined to target Microsoft products. If I were some dude out there setting out to prove the size of my e-peen by writing some virus or finding some exploit in something, I would go for getting the most bang for my buck. That's the logical thing to do. And that means targeting windows, because there's more of them out there. And they're the devil. Now, I'm not necessarily saying Windows is some awesome thing. And I'm not saying that you shouldn't get anti-virus software or firewalls or whatever else. I'm just saying, don't make it out like Windows is some evil piece of crap garbage and the world would be a better place if <insert OS of your choice> were king of the hill, because if it were <insert OS of your choice> dominating the market, anti-virus software and firewalls would be the standard, just the same as it is with Windows now, and the devil would be wearing a red hat instead of glasses. And p.s.- It's been my experience from tech supporting and talking to friends that most people end up getting viruses, keylogged, etc.. by going to shady places and doing shady things in the first place. Stop trying to pirate things or look at the pron and I guarantee you that 99% of your "Windows" issues will go away.
  14. I've read quite a few complaints all over the net about function arguments not being ordered consistently.

  16. I think eventually most computers will just be dummy terminals, little more than a keyb/mouse/monitor, hooked up to the "internet." Or maybe VR gloves and eyewear. Or just hook a wire directly into your brain from some wall socket. Humans will plug in and become like individual brain cells to make up AI.
  17. Also, I mean, no offense, but I don't think you really understand what being an atheist means... Simply not observing certain 'traditions' or rites or practices or beliefs does not make you an atheist. I'm not saying you aren't an atheist, just saying...Do you believe in God or a god or some higher power or any other kind of supernatural stuff? Atheists only believe what science can prove.
  18. assuming you want to remove the bold tags... $array = array('a','b','c'); foreach($array as $val) { echo "<b>$val</b>"; }
  19. Damn..my wife and I only manage 3, maybe 4 positions...IPC is a beast!
  20. I don't like buying stuff online. There's usually always shipping costs to pay. Then you have to sit around and wait forever for it (I'm very big on instant gratification when it comes to buying). Then you have to worry about whether the right thing was shipped and it's not somehow broken or damaged, and then jump through a million hoops if it is - assuming they don't just screw you on it. I don't get to haggle with some dude over price or convince him to throw in a little something extra in exchange for stroking his ego a bit. Or flirt down the price if it's a girl, cuz I am such a lady's man. So yeah, everything I can do online, I want to be able to do it on site, in a store. Ram, motherboard, power source, hard drive, graphics cards, other cards, go up and down the software isle and have him install what I throw in the basket, including OS - Basically I want to be able to go down to Buy More and have Chuck build me a computer from scratch right there on the spot.
  21. I try to learn the ins-and-outs of computers so that when AI takes over the world, I will have a chance to fight back.
  22. ...like I said, it depends on how you coded your own system.
  23. You're also paying for (for example) HP's name on it. If you don't want to pay the extra costs you build your own. It's not only the OS you're paying extra for when purchasing from the store. I think Vista's problems were blown out of proportion. People hear about other people having problems, then start whining about those problems themselves even though they don't experience it. I've been using vista for a while now and I haven't ran into any abnormal problems. Maybe a couple driver issues, but upgrading your old stuff never hurt the economy. Price has nothing to do with my complaint. Nor does any "bugs" windows may or may not have. It's the fact that I can't go to my local computer store and choose my OS. Yes I know I can have a computer custom built (by myself or someone else). That's not the point. And p.s.- I bought a new computer a couple months ago and it has vista on it. So far, I don't really have any complaints.
  24. "Excited" implies that one feels some kind of happiness about the situation. While I am certainly interested in what Microsoft has in store for us, due to the fact that they utterly dominate the markets to the point where I can't just go down to my local store and buy a computer without some version of windows on it, I am certainly not excited about it.
  25. BTW: the foreach loop is really meant for dealing with arrays in which you want to make use of the array keys. It has the added benefit of having an open ended condition - that is, you don't necessarily need to know how many times the loop will iterate, kind of like counting to a certain number, but not necessarily knowing what that number is. If you were to re-organize your code to make a multi-dimensional array, a foreach loop might be of some use for you. You could make 'person' 'folder' and 'name' the keys to your array, with each 'row' of info the values, respectively. As it stands now, if you know exactly how many elements are in the arrays, simply make a for loop. I made a tutorial about php loops a while back, that you may or may not find useful.
