1. Program Information * Xml file's come from labs.zap2it.com * Xml file's are taken off labs.zap2it.com with xmltv (google: "XMLTv") Description: The program is a television listings program.  It takes an menu.xml file (with a lot of channel information) cut's the information up and displays the channel icon, number, name, and link. If the link is clicked on it calles a listings.php using ajax, and uses the channel as a modifier for the url. THe xml file's related to each channel are seperated. So basically. Menu.xml - contains all channel information channelid.labs.zap2it.com - contains each of the channel information (programs), the channelid is the modifier that adds to teh url in php to tell it which channel file to look for. Currently the listings.php (using the channel xml file (dynamically) and the xsl file, it shows the list of shows that are playing within the next 10-15 hours or something. It also shows the now playing highlighted in red. Problem - On the page that pulls out the menu.xml file and shows the channel information, I need to put the name of the currently playing program for each channel, down the list. I have tried this using xml/xsl with hardly any luck.  I have also tried with php, what do you think I shoudl try.
2. No, actually it wasn't. I had forgotten that was there, thanks for reminding me. I was under the impression awhile back server administration was all about working with shared hosts. I didn't know then about dedicated hosting, managed hosting, and what truly came behind server administration. I removed that, thanks for telling me.
3. I have done all of that. You may have never heard of it, but as I stated, I know intermediate stuff about software/hardware. I do web development, setting up server's just doesn't work. Yes, I have done everything with the INI file, that I needed. using that tutorial and reading the instructions (i downloaded the php manual on my laptop) I don't know forget this, I am not good at servers. I installed apache, I installed mysql, I installed php, and I am back at square one problems. Yes I learnt quite a bit, but in the end, I got nowhere but 5-6 hours I could have been playing video games It's something with me and server's we don't get along. I have to figure something out. I guess I will try xxamp tonight, if it doesn't work I am just going to wait. You can tell me I need to stick with it and learn, but I tried wamp, after 4 hours it didn'twork, after trying a manual install for 5 hours it didn't work, there has to be a time period, where you say to hell with it. Especially when it's for personal purposes.  Thanks for all the help so far, I did learn quite a bit.
4. Ok, I got everything out of system 32, restarted. Apache works again, but I am back at square 1 with php It's giving me errors on every library alive, about 20-30 errors come up about can't find librares. Ok any advice appreciated, if nothing works early tomorrow time to install XXAmp and give it a try Grr 5 hours, pure aggravation.
5. Uh, shit. I pissed off apache. I copied all the file's from c:/php/ext and pasted them in the c:/php and then in system 32 under windows (on the computer), i read it somewhere, Now apache is giving me some unexpected server error. SO now it's still asking for all the libraries because it can't find them, and crashing at the end with unexpected error message. Are you sure I shouldn't install wamp, I stopped work at 7 and started the installation process 4 hours later I am full of problems. A lot of frustration Thanks for any feedback, I will try again tomorrow I guess from scratch if need be.
6. Ok, I made a little progress. However, all of a sudden it's not even dynamically loading the extentions. I did the default install it's in c:\PHP the extensions are in C:\php\ext However it's not working, in the ini I Set doc_root = user_dir = extension_dir = "./" enable_db = On however when I restart apache, it comes up with the name of each library one at a time, telling me it's not working, I don't understand.  It tells me they can't be found, what am I doing wrong with this part. I looked through the manual and deleted one extension in Ini file that said NT only. The rest I made sure I had everythign tha was bundled, the few that weren't came in the pecl library. I was wondering how to get the other's working. Thanks.  I just need to figure it out, by the way My apache isntallation was at the default C:\program files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2 All I need to do is get it to find the libraries, then finally get it to show up on the page, it might after I get them finding the libraries again?? Thanks
7. Um do I have bad luck with servers It worked perfectly. Everything worked, then I went and dumped the contents of the pecl zip file into c:/php/ext then I went ahead and uncommented all the functions that are there, now it's acting buggy. IT's not working, hello world php script come's up, but nothing with phpinfo() works What do I do now. Is there a library I am not suppose to have.
8. Ok perfect, I had some problems with php, but got them worked out, I will post here agian if anything else happens while setting up pecl, or mysql, or phpmyadmin. Thanks that was really helpful, I checked processes, that file was open, I fiddled with it some after closing it, apache opened. Then I went ahead and tried, it didn't give me an error but it didn't work either, so after I restarted the computer itself it worked fine. Now phpinfo also displays, I am going to play around with it some more, get mysql, phpmyadmin installed, and hte pecl library, if any more problems arise I will post them here, thanks for the help.
9. No, apache itself worked, and I tested the htdocs file through the browser using localhost, it all worked fine. Then I installed mysql, then php, then when I tried to use apache again, it came back with errors, right after mysql/php install. I jsut reinstalled mysql again, because I had errors the first time, I got it installed properly that time, but apache is still returning the same error, it happened after php was an attempted install. There is nothign else running on this machine 2 video games, and they haven't been opened in awhile. The only other hting is adobe reader, and a zip programmer. That is all that is on there.
10. I got all the stuff I mentioned and http://www.webmasterstop.com/86.html That tutorial, I followed everything up until php. I installed wamp, mysql and now I installed php, or tried to, apache is giving me some error
OS 10048 One usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permited. :make_sock could not bind to address 0.0.0.0.80 unable to open logs
So far I installed apache, it worked, htdocs tested, and localhost worked. THen I installed mysql, didn't know how to test it so was goign to wait for phpmyadmin to truly test it. Then I started following his instructions for php I hadn'e gotten down to pecl yet, but I couldn't get php itself to work. First it told me another error, so I read PHP installation instructions it said for that version the proper file was php 2_2 when I changed that in htpconfig (whatever) it finally stopped giving me ht file syntax error and started giving me that error.
11. Thanks for the advice ,I will keep those in mind.
12. I guess one thing peolpe could stop doing is saying stuff back. From now on, if someone say's something *talking shit, saying bad stuff, offering harsh criticism meant to piss someone off), then I am going to report it. That way instead of cussing, getting banned, and making it worse, maybe that will make it a better place. I cause problems on here sometimes when someone offends me, so I wouldn't doubt if this whole post was made because of me, I shoudln't get so aggravated so easily, from now on, I will report it, before going on a cussing rampage.
13. I agree, I have seen people pop in a post, out of nowhere, and just start talking shit, and throwing insults, out of nowhere. I think it should be an enforced rule, and is about time someone brought this up. Offering constructive, or even harsh criticism is great, but personal insults, personal attacking, or really rude constructive criticism, just alienates people.
14. ok I will start another thread for that, back on subject, if anyone has any advice about the other question.
15. Ripping up multiple xml files. I have 1 xml file It has a list of information on various "channels" for tv Each of those channels has there own xml file. Each file is named differently. I need to do the following I have a list already displaying all the channles, there icons and other things. WHich works fine, I am trying to create another xsl file to go through all the channel xml file's.  1 xml for each channel, with all the programs.  I need to make it find the now playing program (the program that is currently playing), and show it. Hwo do I get 1 xsl file to check multiple (50) different WEll like this Tell xsl to do this Look at channel1.xsl look at all the programs pick the one that is currently playing (using math to figure that out) Display the one playing in a table cell Look at channel2.xsl look at all the programs pick the one that is currently playing (using math to figure that out) display the one playing in a table cell Look at channel3.xsl look at all the programs pick the one that is currently playing (using math to figure it out) display the one playing in a table cell So on and so forth through all the channel file's. How can I accmplish this using xsl?
16.
Last question, here you siad Quote After that, install the libraries yourself. Ok, what do you mean here.  WHen I looked over all the posts up there, I had gathered PHP itself would have everything I needed (library wise), then I also (the tutorial I am following), tells me to download the PECL file, which contains all the pecl functions.  So now that should be everything right? Or did you mean something else?
I still had a question about that above, but i wanted to add another question into that. This is something I have been disturbed about for a long time. I have "my entire life" heard of people having either a window's or mac operating system for there desktop or laptop computer. I have never heard someone say they had a unix/linux operating system on there computer.  No-one I have ever met.  Is it in existence ,or is unix/linux/solaris something else. Is it something that can be installed on windows, the reason I am asking, again I never heard someone mention having a computer, with that type of operating system.  I only hear about them with server's, if so, what is better for a desktop computer windows, linux, unix, or mac. I have been wondering about this for a very long time.
17. Ok, yes, I already decided to do it myself, I have everything downloaded, I am going to try it tonight. So I will do apache, then mysql, then php. Then phpmyadmin perfect. Last question, here you siad
After that, install the libraries yourself.
Ok, what do you mean here.  WHen I looked over all the posts up there, I had gathered PHP itself would have everything I needed (library wise), then I also (the tutorial I am following), tells me to download the PECL file, which contains all the pecl functions.  So now that should be everything right? 18. Ok thanks. So then I think I have everything, I have downloaded the
apache 2.2.4 installer php 5.2.0 mysql I showed you phpmyadmin 2.5.7 PECL 5.2.0 Win32
I have downloaded all of those, putting them on the flash drive, and trying to install them tonight, I found a tutorial to walk me through the whole process. On mysql, what version do you suggest, if I make programs for mysql 5.0+ is it going ot be backwards compatible with 4, because i had a program I installed on my server awihle back, that was made for php 4, he fixed it for me because I ahd paid for it, and he told me it was originally created for mysql 4, so he had to make some adjustments.  Will I have any of these type of problems using mysql 5, as opposed to mysql 4 What are your opinions. Thanks?
Would you rather I say it here? Okay. I simply pointed out that for someone who claims to be a writer, which you do on your site, you make a lot of grammatical mistakes and spelling errors. You're making very fraudulent claims on your site about your level of expertise and I think it's pretty ridiculous. I would never hire someone who can't be bothered to fix simple mistakes such as these, and I'm amazed you've taken advantage of your "clients" the way you apparently have. "In the world of web development, there are a lot of web developers out there who are not what they seem. They do bad practices, or have bad habits, and don't treat there clients right. I am a freelance web developer, that likes handling all your web development needs, and try my hardest to satisfy everything you might need done, in a timely, and professional manner." This alone should tell your visitors you ARE one of those developers
Normally what you said would react in me cussing, getting banned for 2 days. But I haven't liked you since I first saw you, so I am going to ignore what you said. I never said I am a writer, I simply like writing, and do it as a hobby. I am a web developer, and I do it well enough to know what I am doing, and plenty well enough to get paid for it, I do it 11 hours a day, other than that, I will ignore everything you siad. You want to to talk about someone, go talk to your mom.  You have no right popping in my past, and startign crap out of nowhere. I never asked you to pop in with your stupid half wit comments anyway.
19. Ok, so those aren't any of the main one's that appear on php's website. They also aren't one's I would end up using a lot, so then I just need to focus on what come's with PHP, like yous aid. Thanks, the last question I had was that one about mysql.
20. Also, off a tutorial I am following to do the installation, I see here, it says download Mysql 5 I started downloading it, it's like 45 MB, is this the right file, or am I looking in the wrong place. Mysql 5.0.27-win32.zip This is the right mysql file right. Because when I installed Wamp, the entire file itself was barely 2 megabytes (or I think it only took 3-4 minutes to get a full download, it was like 2. something megabytes??
21. Ok, is there a place you can downlaod them directly. Then setup pear, and hte other's to take care of the rest. Or put htem all in a folder, and have the pear program check there, instead of online? I just installed the package of PECL on there, so I have the pecl library. just wondering about the rest? Thanks. Note: To random people, that want to randomly insult people through PM, don't agian, or I am reporting you for harrasment. Not saying any names, but don't really have time to waste on people like that.
22.
Then using PEAR you can download PECL libraries
What do you mean by that one sentence there. Because the laptop isn't connected to the internet? Or did you mean something else? Do I need to take the whole pecl library zipfile over to the laptop as well, for after I run the PEAR install?
23. Ok, I think I am good to go.  WIth the exception of 2 things I want to ask about. PECL and PEAR Do they BOTH come fully bundled with that php zip file? If I download that, how do I enable all of those with it?
24. Ok, that makes sense. However going through the php library. I was looking at a few functions I KNOW I wanted, a lot of them said you needed an external lib file. Do thoes come zipped with it. FOr instance, curl (just one example) in the php manual, said I needed the proper download with it, to get it to work. I don't know how many are like that.  or are those included in the zip file as well?
25. If I do the following then it will give me everything I need. 1. Go to http://httpd.apache.org/ Download version  2.2.4 2. Go to mysql's website download the newest 4+ version 3. Go to phpmyadmin Download the newest version 4. Go to php.net ((NOTE 1 HERE )) 5. Put all the file's (with some tutorials) on my flash drive. install them in this order on my laptop apache, php, mysql, phpmyadmin test them Then install extensions and test them Ok Now, here is the question I had up there for note 1 What do I download at www.php.net
PHP 5.2.0 Complete Source Code     * PHP 5.2.0 (tar.bz2) [6,631Kb] - 02 Nov 2006       md5: e6029fafcee029edcfa2ceed7a005333     * PHP 5.2.0 (tar.gz) [8,382Kb] - 02 Nov 2006       md5: 52d7e8b3d8d7573e75c97340f131f988 Windows Binaries     * PHP 5.2.0 zip package [9,433Kb] - 02 Nov 2006       md5: 910734e96f41190020272d80b82ce553     * PHP 5.2.0 installer [18,879Kb] - 02 Nov 2006       md5: 1521d6e9b273299ebd8081d174146d22     * Collection of PECL modules for PHP 5.2.0 [2,202Kb] - 02 Nov 2006       md5: 638f5997884ae3ce35d2b3ec12f399b2 We have a PHP 5 / Zend Engine 2 page explaining the language level changes introduced in PHP 5. The PHP 5 ChangeLog details all the other changes.
Ok, what is the different between complete source code, and the other. I know php installer is an auto installed, what is the difference between package, installer, and modules. Which should I get, you said the package, so I should install that right there PHP 5.2.0 Zip Pacakge Then all the PECL modules. IS that everything I wanted, does that have curl, mcrypt, ftp functions, xml functions, pdf creation functions, math library, gd library, and all that other good stuff (there are a lot more than that, but those are what I remember off the top of my head. Thanks for the guidance.
